5 Tips for Choosing the Right Wedding Photographer for you

[ez-toc]

There are so many photographers to choose from, most are professional, reliable, and skilled but don’t be fooled this isn’t always the case. Here are my five tips to help you make the right choice of wedding photographer:

1. Style of Photography:

Sometime we don’t really know what we want when we start to look at different styles of photography.

There are many styles including candid, documentary, creative, modern and traditional. All have their place but it’s all down to personal preference. I think the best place to start is with photos that stop you in your tracks and have you wanting to see more!

Do you prefer traditional, posed photos or more modern, natural, unposed shots?

Some couples might prefer images with a dramatic feel and creative post-processing, while others may want a more natural and airy look. Once you’ve figured out your style, you can narrow down your list of photographers by looking at their portfolios.

2. Do your research:

Use the internet to research the photographers you like. Read google reviews, websites, and check out their social media pages. In particular, pay attention to feedback from their previous clients. A photographer’s online presence can give you a sense of their reliability and professionalism. After all it is their shop front. It should show exceptional personality, professionalism and quality work.

3. Connection:

Once you’ve narrowed down your list, arrange a meeting via zoom with the photographers. You should feel comfortable and relaxed with the person capturing your wedding. During the meeting, see if their personality meshes well with yours.

This is also the right time to ask about their experience, including the number of weddings they’ve shot and their experience in different lighting, weather conditions and most importantly how they work with you to create genuine moments that aren’t forced or posed.

4. Examine a full wedding album:

Every photographer will display the best show stopping work on their website so it’s important to see a full wedding gallery so you can can get a better idea of what your own wedding photos might look like.

It’s important to see how a photographer handles all parts of the wedding, from the bridal preparations to the evening reception. The consistency of quality throughout the album is crucial.

5. Work to a budget but don’t skimp:

Make sure you fully understand what the photography package includes. Some photographers might offer engagement shoots, second shooters, or additional hours as part of their packages, while others might charge extra.

Ensure that you’re clear about how many hours of coverage you’re getting, how many photographers will be present, and when you’ll receive your photos and in what format.

Choosing the right wedding photographer isn’t just about their ability to take great photos. It’s also about whether their style, their professionalism, and whether you feel comfortable with them.

A great professional photographer will set you back around £2000 just be sure to do your research to avoid disappointment as you most likely will only do this the once.

Why not check out my wedding photography portfolio as a starting point and see if you like my style of photography?
