5 Tips for Choosing the perfect wedding venue

Your Wedding Style:

Before shortlisting potential venues, discuss the style of wedding you would like. Are you looking for a romantic barn wedding or a grand manor house, maybe even a castle! Pinning this down will help you select a venue that ties in with your wedding theme/feel for the big day.

Guest numbers and facilities:

Make a short list of the number of guests you plan to invite and ensure the venue can comfortably accommodate them. Most venues will cater for at least 100 people for your wedding breakfast and even more for the evening reception. Consider both the ceremony and reception areas, as well as spaces for canopies and drinks, the party and your wedding breakfast. I know this may sound silly but check to see if the venue offers the essentials such as accommodation, toilets, parking, and wheelchair accessibility to ensure It’s ticking all the boxes.

Budget and availability:

Establish a realistic budget! The average venue in the UK will set you back anywhere between 12-15k. Compare the costs of different venues, including rental fees, additional services scubas corkage, and any hidden costs. I’d consider things like catering options, decoration restrictions and sound limiters for your evening party.

Location and Accessibility:

Consider the location of the wedding venue for your guests. Is it located near hotels or other accommodation? If the venue is out in the sticks, consider any logistics to ensure easy travel for your guests. Also its worth taking into account the feel and surroundings that the location offers for your wedding photos. A good photographer will make any location look better than you might envisage but it helps if you have pretty gardens or stunning architecture to play with.

Time of year:

Weather conditions and the time of year are both big factors to consider. If you dream of an an outdoor wedding, ensure the venue has both inside and outside ceremony locations as well as somewhere for your dining and drinks to take place without the weather causing any disruption. If you have a specific date in mind, book early to secure your venue as peak wedding season will limit weekend availability and may affect pricing.

Take your time to do the homework and visit different venues. With these five tips in mind, you’ll be well on your way to finding a wedding venue that ticks all the boxes.
